 2024-2025 School Year

Welcome to the George Key Website!

As Principal of George Key School in Placentia, CA, I am happy to share with you what we do and our vision and mission. At George Key School, we work with students in the Placentia Yorba Linda School District with complex medical needs and other challenges. Our mottos include “ALL Students Can Learn” and “Presume Competence.” Our vision and mission is to help all of our students be independent, happy and successful, placing “no limits” on their potential.

Our students come to school each day ready to learn and have a great time. Our curriculum includes the use of the evidenced-based literacy program, Readtopia. Our students learn to read using classic literature and current events with readers structured to their instructional reading levels.  We focus on communication throughout the day, teaching students through various augmentative and alternative communication systems how to use language for daily needs, to express thoughts and opinions.

In addition to academic pursuits, students participate in assemblies, an annual Jog-a-Thon in April and a family barbecue in May. We have a George Key “Haunted House” in October and with the help of our Parent Student Staff Organization (PSSO) students enjoy an incredibly special fun Halloween celebration. One special highlight is our annual George Key Holiday party, hosted by the Yorba Linda Rotary club.  Each student is provided with a gift and a visit with Santa! Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary is also a wonderful contributor to our school, providing money to the school at the holiday celebration.

Last year our community friends with contributor Linda and Gilbert Badillo were able to work together, donating time, labor and materials for a sensory garden for our students.  Given the nature of our students, having a fragrant garden with brightly colored flowers at wheelchair level to enjoy gives them a chance to enjoy the outdoors.

George Key students participate in academic, social-emotional learning, gross and fine motor activities, speech and occupational therapy and adapted physical education as stated on their Individualized Educational Plans.  Our days are busy, full of learning and fun!

Personally, I have a background as a special education teacher, speech-language pathologist and program specialist.  I have been working with students with special needs for many years.  It is my passion that all students learn to the best of their ability, that they are provided opportunities for academic, social-emotional, motor and communication growth. Our students, families and staff share a common goal in “putting kids first.”  I am happy to be part of this amazing school and welcome your participation at our very special school.

Warmly,

Rebecca Allan, M.A., CCC-SLP
