George Key School

Principal's Message

August 2016

Welcome Back George Key Family!!!

I am so excited to start the year here at George Key, and am looking forward to a great time of learning and fun.  The teachers have been cleaning out, organizing and preparing their classrooms for another fantastic year at Key, and we are thrilled you are all a part of it.

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to those of you whom I have not met.  My name is Kim Smith and I have been with the district for 15 years.  Before that, I was actually a student of this district from kindergarten through 12th grade.  My heart has always been with Placentia-Yorba Linda.  I received my teaching credential as an Education Specialist for students with moderate-severe disabilities.  Ironically, my very first teaching assignment was at George Key.  I loved everything about this school, and could have taught here forever!  The district had other plans for me, and sent me to 3 other school sites where I grew as an educator.  For the last 3 years, I was a program specialist in the Special Education department at the district office.  There, I learned something new about this field every day!  I thought I was content to remain in that position, until I heard about the opportunity to be the principal at George Key School.  My heart skipped a beat and I knew that was where I belonged.  I am truly honored to be back at Key, and become invested in the lives of your children.

Looking forward to a great year,

Kim Smith
